Let me ask you a question. If video is so important in this day and age to market your product or services, then why aren’t you using it? Well, there could be a plethora of reasons why and below and I’m going to try and point out a few of the biggest ones.
1. You’re not sure how to get started. A lot of the time I speak to a new client that has never, ever been a part of a video production before. It’s just a foreign place for them. I believe that for some reason it feels like it’s going to be such a big process and super time-consuming, that they won't pull the trigger. There’s the fear of the unknown and then ends up on the back burner as - something they’d like to do….someday.
2. You think you don’t have the time. I get it. Time is the most precious commodity we have in our lives. With so much going between work and our personal lives, who’s got time to create videos? You do. If you know that you’re regularly watching videos on a daily basis, then you understand the influence video has in your own life. Whether that’s making a purchase because of a video review you saw or just being entertained it’s a part of your daily life. So if it’s that influential in your own life, don’t you think it might be the best way to communicate your product or service to a potential customer? I do. And if you can allocate just a small amount of time, you can get a video produced that might have a shelf life of a few years.
3. You think it’s too expensive. For a long time now, people have thought of advertising their product or services through a commercial as “too much money.” Going by what they see on TV (even local TV) has given people a misconception of what’s possible with video now a days. Don’t get me wrong, you get what you pay for, but you don’t have to spend tens of thousands of dollars to get a really polished video produced to market online. In fact, if you’re just starting out and don’t have the means yet to hire a video production company, then most likely you can shoot some sort of content yourself, even with your phone. But realistically keep in mind if you do hire a professional video producer, you are going to pay something.
4. You're not sure what to do with it. To me this might be the one that sticks out the most. It might not be the most obvious, but it’s one that can make or break your success with video. Before you think about reaching out to a video production company or even producing a video yourself, you need to ask some questions. “Who is this video for?” And “What are my plans with the video?” If in your mind you’re thinking, “I’ll just stick it on my website and share in my social” that unfortunately is not a highly successful move. Sticking it on your home page or about us page just won’t do the trick. You need to have a well thought out strategy of who you are targeting with the video and then implementing that strategy through a variety or platforms. I won’t get into the details here, but if you’re interested in reading more, check out this blog post where we talk about thinking strategically with your video content.
